Intel will build a semiconductor assembly and test facility near Wrocław, Poland

June 19, 2023

With an investment of up to $4.6 billion, the test facility near Wrocław aims to create a cutting-edge semiconductor value chain in Europe (we wrote about Intel’s plans here). The facility will support about 2,000 Intel employees and create several thousand additional jobs.

The facility will be constructed with green building principles and operate with high environmental standards to minimize its carbon footprint and environmental impact. The proximity of the new location to Intel’s planned state-of-the-art semiconductor wafer fabrication facility in Germany and its existing facility in Ireland provides a strategic location and aligns with the European Union’s objective of establishing a more resilient and cost-efficient semiconductor supply chain.

“Poland is already home to Intel operations and is well positioned to work with Intel sites in Germany and Ireland. It is also very cost-competitive with other manufacturing locations globally and offers a great talent base that we are excited to help to grow,” said Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger. “We’re grateful for the support from Poland as we work to grow the local semiconductor ecosystem and contribute to the EU’s goal of creating a more resilient and sustainable semiconductor supply chain.”

Creating well-paid permanent jobs, ranging from engineers and business support functions to factory operators and equipment technicians will contribute to Poland’s strong technical talent base. The robust workforce and talent pool have been pivotal in Intel’s oparations, as well as staff augmentation strategies in Poland for the past three decades. This includes their substantial research and development activities in Gdańsk, which stands as Intel’s largest R&D facility in Europe, employing nearly 4,000 individuals.
