Poland Clinches United Cup Title After Win Over Switzerland

January 12, 2026

We’ve always said that Polish software developers belong to the world’s top tier, and that teamwork is one of Poland’s greatest strengths. When looking for a sporting parallel, we’ve often pointed to Polish volleyball players, a team consistently competing at the very top level globally, built on trust, structure, and collaboration rather than individual stardom alone.

Now, we can confidently add tennis to that list.

United Cup in Australia: The Showcase of Polish Spirit

Although tennis is typically associated with individual performances, the United Cup tells a different story. Often described as the unofficial mixed-team world championship, the tournament requires each nation to field both women and men, including a mixed doubles pairing. Success here depends on balance, communication, adaptability, and shared responsibility, exactly the qualities that define high-performing teams.

Poland has secured its first United Cup 2026 title, overcoming Switzerland 2–1 in the final at Sydney’s Ken Rosewall Arena on Sunday, January 11. After finishing as runners-up in both previous editions, the Polish team finally converted its hard work into silverware in this unique mixed-team tennis event.

The match was fierce. Switzerland took the early advantage when Belinda Bencic, unbeaten through much of the tournament, stunned World No. 2 Iga Świątek 3–6, 6–0, 6–3 in the opening singles rubber. Poland’s response was emphatic. Hubert Hurkacz, playing his first competitive event in seven months following knee surgery, rallied past veteran Stan Wawrinka 6–3, 3–6, 6–3 to level the final and keep Poland in contention.

The championship was decided dramatically by Poland’s mixed doubles duo Katarzyna Kawa and Jan Zieliński, who defeated Switzerland’s Bencic and Jakub Paul 6–4, 6–3. It was the perfect finale to a determined campaign and extended Kawa and Zieliński’s flawless mixed doubles record throughout the tournament.

As we could have guessed, the emotions after the victory were overwhelming. As Iga Świątek commented after the match:

“Finally, we have made it – third-time lucky… I mean, not lucky because we worked really hard.”; “I want to thank our team because this year I felt like it was such a team effort. I really felt the support. Even though my singles performance wasn’t perfect, you really got my spirits up, and each of you believed to the end.”

Why Does This Win Resonate Beyond Sport?

After runner-up finishes in the 2024 and 2025 finals, Poland’s triumph marks a major milestone for Polish tennis and underscores a culture of resilience, consistency, and collective effort. It’s a powerful reminder that when individual excellence is combined with strong teamwork, the results can be exceptional, whether on the tennis court or in complex IT projects.

Here’s to Polish sport and Polish IT – both proving that world-class results are built on talent, teamwork, and consistency. And if you’re looking to build high-performing IT teams that truly deliver, contact us!
