Poland Tops Europe, Ranks 4th Globally at International Mathematical Olympiad

July 30, 2025

In our recent news, we’ve highlighted outstanding achievements by Polish individuals, such as programmer Psyho, who defeated an AI at the AtCoder World Tour Finals, and engineer Sławosz Uznański‑Wiśniewski, who soared into space on the historic Axiom Mission 4.

Now, we celebrate yet another remarkable success. This time from the younger generation. Polish high school students have proven their world-class knowledge and skills on the global stage.

At the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad, widely considered the most prestigious mathematics competition in the world, the Polish team ranked 4th globally (tied with Japan) and 1st in Europe. The team’s total score of 196 points is Poland’s highest since 1983, marking a true milestone in the country’s educational and talent development efforts. They also brought home an outstanding set of medals: three golds and three silvers, the strongest medal haul in over two decades.

Among the gold medalists is Magdalena Pudełko, who made history earlier this year as the first female winner of the Polish Mathematical Olympiad, and now returns from the International Mathematical Olympiad with a gold medal as well.

Congratulations to her and the entire Polish team! You can find more information about them here.

Why are Polish students and professionals excelling on such a global scale? We explore this question in our Why do IT in Poland? section.
