EmpoWomen, an initiative focused on empowering women entrepreneurs in developing countries, has announced the successful completion of its first Open Call for applications. Running from January 8 to March 8, 2024, EmpoWomen received 169 applications from women-led deep tech startups based in emerging market countries across Europe.

The enthusiastic response highlights the global importance of EmpoWomen’s mission to support female-led deep-tech ventures across international borders. María Elena Martínez Hernández, Project Coordinator of EmpoWomen at SPLORO, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming interest and engagement during the call. She said, “We are thrilled by the immense interest and engagement we have witnessed during the first open call for EmpoWomen. The sheer number of applications from diverse parts of the world underscores the universal demand for initiatives dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs. We are deeply inspired by the innovative ideas and entrepreneurial spirit demonstrated by the applicants.”

Following a rigorous selection process, 11 women-led startups were chosen to participate in the transformative EmpoWomen program. These startups, representing various regions of Europe, bring unique blends of innovation, technology, and purpose.  Among them, 4 startups originate from Poland, they are:

– HUGUP – a deep tech startup revolutionizing pregnancy wellness with its advanced support wear;
– Astroteq.ai – an AI-driven earthquake forecasting system, providing alerts 14, 3, and 1 day(s) prior to earthquakes;
– Heilo – an innovative air-purifier for baby prams and strollers protecting babies from breathing polluted air;
– IQ Biozoom – a pioneering company dedicated to improving the management of personal health through non-invasive, pain-free diagnostic home tests.

All of startups will undergo a 6-month acceleration program, supported by Startup Wise Guys and Business Angels Europe, to bring their innovative ideas to life. During the program, startups will receive up to €60,000 in equity-free funding.
