South Korean Gaming Giants Invest in Poland’s Game Development Sector

December 12, 2024

South Korean gaming companies are increasingly turning their attention to Poland, recognizing the country’s exceptional talent and potential in the global gaming industry.

A Wave of South Korean Investments in the Poland’s Game Development Sector

The latest development is NCSoft Corp., a leader in the South Korean gaming market, partnering with Polish game developer Virtual Alchemy and South Korea’s Mistil Games. While the size of the investment remains undisclosed, the collaboration signals NCSoft’s commitment to establishing a foothold in CEE through Poland’s dynamic game development sector.

NCSoft’s move is part of a larger wave of South Korean investments in Poland. Several other major gaming companies have made significant commitments to Poland in recent years:

  • Neowiz, another major player, invested $8 million in Polish developer Zakazane to acquire rights to a game in development. Additionally, the company allocated $17 million last year to support Blank Game Studios, further strengthening its ties to Poland.
  • Krafton, known globally for PUBG: Battlegrounds, acquired a 10% stake in Poland’s renowned People Can Fly for $30 million.
  • WeMade formed a partnership with Katnappe Studio to integrate Polish games into the Korean blockchain platform.

Poland’s Growing Influence in the Gaming Industry

Poland’s gaming sector is the largest in Europe after the UK and France, with over 15,000 professionals employed, according to the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP). The country is home to some of the most respected studios in the world, including CD Projekt RED, creators of the globally acclaimed Cyberpunk 2077, which has sold over 30 million copies as of 2023.

South Korean companies are drawn to Poland not only for its talent but also for its ability to produce games that resonate with a global audience.

Strengthening Ties Between South Korea and Poland

These collaborations mark a significant step in connecting two vibrant gaming cultures. South Korean companies contribute financial resources and advanced technologies, while Polish studios bring unmatched creativity, innovative game design, and compelling storytelling. Together, these partnerships are setting the stage for breakthroughs in the global gaming industry.
